Back on the bike

And back to blogging. It's been awhile. I was suffering from severe migraines pretty much from the Thursday before Memorial Day through until Memorial Day. Not fun and my whole sleep schedule got really off because I spent a good portion of the days doped up on my meds. The plus to this was that my migraines make me nauseous, so I actually lost a little over a pound. Unfortunately, once I started eating regular meals again, I gained it back.
As far as the dieting, I have been trying to monitor my caloric intake and when I am rushing in the mornings I now grab a slim-fast shake. They are actually much better than I remember from several years ago. My dad had been trying slim-fast and I remember him complaining about how bad the shakes tasted.  I told him that they couldn't be that bad and I bet him a few bucks that I could drink those shakes every day for a week without complaining. Wow, did I lose that bet. Those suckers tasted awful. I could barely choke down the first one. So, I was pleased when after seeing commercials for the new Optima line of shakes (these are supposed to keep you fuller longer) that they tasted pretty good. Not great or anything, but they are good. Certainly edible.
And now I finally got back on my bike today. For the past few months, I kept thinking that I needed to take my bike in for its yearly tune-up. Of course, I wait until just after Mother's Day to finally drive it over to a shop on the east side. They did a great job on it, but it took two weeks to get it back. So, today, I rode outside for the first time since last fall and it felt great. It was the perfect day for riding. Went out with my dad, so we took a little slower pace than the team normally does, but it felt good. We only went about 15 miles and although my legs felt great afterwards, my ass is a little sore. It'll take a little while to get used to being in the saddle again. Nothing like jumping right in, though, because next weekend I'm supposed to ride 42 miles on the Trek 100 bike tour. I'm sure I'll be fine, just maybe a little sore on Sunday:)
Plus, this week, I'm starting my training for the Lakefront Marathon. I had to add in a couple of weeks to the training plan to make the adjustments for the week I'm chaperoning work camp in July and of course I won't be able to do long runs on the weekend I'm in New York or the weekend of the MS 150 bike tour. I'm determined to follow the plan this time- and if I do, it'll be the first marathon that I run with the proper amount of training. Here goes nothin'.
